Because it's so raunchy and so politically incorrect that no channel would/could air it with the possible exception of HBO! My impression of the event over the years is that it's gotten raunchier, and it's kind of a "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" kind of thing. What happens at a roast stays in that room--not for public eyes or ears! I think participants and guests feel there is a kind of confidentiality about it--no one shares what happened at it after it's over which allows them to say some outrageous things. But it is an honor for him to have been invited. I hope he has a great time and wows them with his humor and talent.

This is truly an honor. Quite often the media does a brief recap about the roast and because Matt is on The Today Show he will likely mention what happened. Sooooooo exciting.

Maybe he'll step outside the box and sing his remarks to Matt with words he personally penned to music written by David!! OT-- But I noticed that Barbara Streistand is one of this year's Kennedy honorees. It would be quite an honor for Clay to be one of the group who honors Barbara.

I mean a lot of these men are old timey comics who have done and seen it all! It's going to be crazy bad language, sexual stuff and insults. That stuff doesn't bother me...but I hope Clay is up to it. I think the only saving grace might be the fact that women have been invited. Some of the old guys will keep it cleaner out of respect. Regardless, Clay can hold his own. His swipes can be just as caustic and funny as anyone else without the lewd vocabulary. Oh, I wish I were a fly on the wall. Wonder if Jaymes will be his guest.

Pehaps he met with Matt behind the scenes and knows him enough to be able to roast him.

These things are quite raw nowadays (unlike the much more PG versions from days long gone), but I agree with posts upthread that Clay has heard a lot in the 5 years he's been a public figure, so I don't think he'll be particularly shocked. And his own contribution may not be as clean as some might think. But...he will impress with his sense of humour and I suspect many in attendance will be surprised that this guy is Clay Aiken from AI. This is just another way to meet and impress those who could very well help his career in future. Being in NYC gives Clay many opportunities to schmooze a little and be asked to participate in events such as this.
