I also trust my own personal experience like the DJ who clearly avoided playing Clay's song despite them having the song since they played it during an interview. And the same station replaying Clay's interview due to popular demand while claiming they wouldn't play Clay's music because he wasn't popular with listeners. Clearly not true. As I expect many of the DJ stories are. Which is why I don't think there is a kernel, grain or molecule of truth in the 'blame the fan' thing.

Like the writer who wrote letters to the editor for a magazine that hadn't yet been published or the bombardment of 12 e-mails - I'd question the DJ stories. Just because they say so doesn't make it real. There is absolutely no evidence that fans had any hand in the lack of airplay, other than the word of the DJs. And if their stations take payola how much is their word worth? How about zippo. Nada. Bupkus. Zero. Nothing. Is there evidence of payola? Lots. Ten million fine to Sony BMG. Is there evidence of stations giving fans the runaround? Lots. I gave three examples I experienced personally. I'll believe my own ears over DJs word any day. Clay wasn't there to see or hear calls or e-mails. He's just getting the stories the DJs told.

I do think words spreads fast in the music industry. That just proves my point. That many of the DJs and radio stations were acting out of prejudice and hearsay and not to anything fans actually did. And that prejudice was likely spread by people with agendas. And DJs who were forced not to play Clay for business reasons who were called on it rightly by fans - were happy to find a way to justify themselves by convincing themselves of the story. Fans who called alot were just reacting to the ONE and ONLY cause of lack of airplay - business decisions. According to what was reported Clay said this was based on stereotypes or 'false images' of fans. Well that's exactly what I said. It's a made up story to shift the blame to fans instead of the responsible parties, the businesses involved. Do those businesses and journalists want fans to stop complaining? Easy. Play Clay. And treat him with respect. Simple solution.

Now if the label and radio stations want fans to cooperate with their 'cop out' story they need to put Clay's single in heavy rotation for the next few months. And THEN and only THEN will I consider looking the other way over all the ridicule, runraounds, lies and insults thrown at Clay and the fans.
