Posts: 89 12/01/07 1:12 PM Reply Quote More Recent Posts	Prior to the Waukegan M&G, as Jerome was going through the rules, he made this comment re: cameras ...(slightly paraphrased by me). "There will be no cameras allowed tonight (Waukegan) because of what happened the night before." (apparently there was a real problem with a ton of flashes). He said, "they have asked and asked that NO FLASHES be used as it is very hard on the people on stage....but some people (not everyone) still don't understand what that means." ...and his quote... "So now we'll see if they understand what NO cameras mean." He did say (me talking now) he knows they are being tough and its the first time "they" have said no cameras...(and they hate to do that)...but they are obviously trying to get the point acrossed. I know this is not new news to most of us to turn off flashes...but if flashes continue... we may all be on the losing end. Reply Quote More Recent Posts	Thank you for posting that COTA - I wonder if the mods would allow your post on Clay Street too for awhile. Wouldn't you know the crackdown would happen when I had row A and was getting the best pictures of my life before I, too, using NO FLASH, was busted. I think there will always be a few flashes from those who have not seen Clay before and are Orchestra concertgoers but the # of flashes I have seen indicates that even some fans still think they need a flash and walla I and everyone else in Waukegan had to pay for that. They resumed allowing camares in Kalamazoo so I hope we can have them for the final 3 concerts that I am able to attend - again with great seats for a change. Folks you do not need a flash to get a great picture - this was with NO FLASH - before I was busted. Just look at what I was able to get before I was busted about 5 minutes later. Posts: 11437 12/01/07 2:19 PM Reply Quote More Recent Posts	I read (I think it was the CH) that there was this kid that just kept taking flash pictures and he was called out , then upon seeing some others take pics (not necessisarily flash ) decided to run and tattle ! Then all of a sudden there appeared the camera police in full force even to the extent where they were spoiling the concert !

Posts: 89 12/01/07 4:22 PM Reply Quote More Recent Posts	Yes, Nicki, is right about that...since we were together Jerome DID say No cameras at all...but I had noticed early on that one guard was watching Nicki but since she had no flash he left her alone at first.....until the kids down from us started flashing and flashing. Once the security intervened with the kids (leaning over people and into the second row and talking loud enough to be heard a few people down...and totally interupting the current song) ...and then the kid ratted out the other cameras.....security then went for Bobbi's camera too and made her put it away. While we were all disappointed that nicki had to stop....I can understand that it is hard to inforce the NO Cameras rule for one person...but allow someone 6 or 8 seats away to still use one. So then they became FIRM about them all. In my heart I believe that they STILL would have over looked the cameras as long as there were NO FLASHES going off.......since that is the WHOLE POINT they are trying to make.

Posts: 129 12/01/07 5:57 PM Reply Quote More Recent Posts	Last night in Kalamazoo there was man sitting behind me in the center of the 3rd row that took a picture at the bginning of the concert and his flash went off. He didn't know it was not turned off. An usher made his way down row to the man and tried to take the camera. The man would not give it up. Pretty soon a police officer came down the aisle and escorted the man out. It was very annoying to everyone around him. I wish they would just make an announcement at the beginning of the concert like they have during past tours asking everyone to make sure their flashes were off. I still carry a roll of electrical tape for anyone aroud me. It is not "us" that are flashing, it's the local fans that may not know about the internet.

I didnt use my flash once. my camera is Clay friendly. my flash never pops up unless I force it up anyway. I can guarantee my flash will never go off. unless some miracle happens and my flash is fixed. I dont plan on fixing it so I dont have issues with it at other concerts, If i'm lucky to get to any more. I'm still trying to tag and upload my pictures. amanda

They have done that before but unfortunately some people still use their flash. I noticed they only made one "no camera/no cell phone/no video" announcement in Waukegan though way before the show and half the people were not in the auditorium yet. Its sad. In a way the man escorted out may have been better off had he gone along with security, gave them his camera but followed them out to explain what happened and then he may have gotten it back.

That's a clack gatherers dream come true. Alot of good that did me - security kept walking in front of me to bust people. It was so distracting, I couldn't enjoy the concert - or take photos. Finally at intermission, I sent a friend to that row A seat and I went back to H, just for the chance to shoot some photos. . . . and imagine that! I enjoyed the show so much more without all the distractions. ---When you have a passion to photograph Clay though, that was such a lost opportunity to do the thing I love most. . .

Reply Quote More Recent Posts	What was most disturbing was that a nice security guard has already talked to me (on his knees and quietly so as not to disturb people) and as soon as he did I stopped taking chances and put the camera away (& I did not want them coming back at me disturbing those around me). Then a mean lady security guard must not have been happy that he did not disturb anyone and stood right in front of me and told me that it was "strike two" against me when no one had previously talked to me at all. I told her she had me mixed up with someone else and she then said she herself told me twice! Not nice to lie! Danged if I didn't instinctly pinch her arm and say, "No you didn't! OMG! I don't know why I did that as I am not violent and I am surprised she did not throw me out. She just walked away! After the show I actually spoke to one of the managers about her and said that tact would go a long way and explained what happened. He asked for her description and said he would talk to her. Then I fessed up to him that I sort of pinched her arm and believe it or not he laughed and said the next time I should pinch her harder! Now I am definitely not advocating pinching here. Its jutst that it has been a rough week at home with one of my cats and hubby had to say home with her so I guess I was in no mood for that kind of treatment after I had already put my camera away cooperatively.

That's what happened in Chicago for the 2004 tour. It was insane. I sat in an aisle seat, and there were security people squatting down next to me, looking like they were going to sprint down the aisle. It was soooo distracting to me and others nearby. When you pay that much money to see a show you've been wanting to see, it's so maddening.

It might help at least SOME if they would announce "no flash photography" just a few minutes prior to show time. At my very first Clay concert (Independent Tour), I was totally ignorant of the fact that I did not need to use the flash, although I was a member of a Clay fan site. This problem had not been addressed at all then. I had great 7th row seats near the "cat walk," but my developed film showed more illuminated heads in front of me than anything else.

Reply Quote More Recent Posts	If I hear they are still cracking down on cameras, I intend to leave mine in my hotel room for the remaining concerts as its just not worth it. I too want to enjoy the show. I had no idea there was going to be a crackdown in Waukegan. In a way I sort of wish Clay would blog and say no cameras like when he blogged saying they were okay that time. It would stop some of us, like me, from even taking a camera but we have been so spoiled with him allowing them that who knew this crackdown was coming.

Reply Quote More Recent Posts	I flew into Washington for the concert and the clack police were VERY hostile and not particularly nice. They said that "they" - pointing at the stage, had asked for no photo's - my thinking was maybe the orchestra more than Team Clay.BUT they made it VERY clear no photos, no strikes, zero tolerance...AND then they proceeded to sit on the balcony watching down on everyone to make sure. It was such as a shame as one of my best friends on the board was up reading her poignant story and I really wanted to get some pics but was scared stiff of being caught, so I didnt... Its such a shame though, as I too, had been practising with my camera and no flash for a while and was excited about my first ever Clay pics, but it wasnt to be... I did see SLC there though and a few others so I'm praying they didnt get caught! Kim x x

My friend standing on stage reading said when she read all she could see was bright white light, so that was without any flashes..Lord knows what poor Clay goes through when they are flashes at him! Shame though that a few can spoil it, although as mentioned, it may be caused by non-internet fans, although surely common sense would prevail and people would know a bright light in a dark room wouldnt be particularly pleasant for whoever was on stage..
