JNT-05 Script for hearing impaired- Spoiler |
Lead | |
|
I was wondering if anyone has transcribed the the play parts of the concert? My daughter and I are going to Kansas and she is hearing impaired. She wears double hearing aides and reads lips. She does not read signed language. She can hear Clay sing but won't get every word of the songs so I have printed out the lyrics for her for the new or less familiar songs. I love that she loves Clay and will go to concerts with me. We went to Melboune last year. But I am concerned about her knowing what is going on with the play parts. We are on row E so she won't be able to see their lips except with binoculars and the actors are not always facing you. Only the love for my daughter would make me brave enough to start a thread for the first time. I know you all have such big hearts I was hoping you could help me help her.

Mamma.....
Boy, can I relate to what you are saying. My husband just lost most his hearing too. When you are recently hearing impaired you don't know sign language. He too wears hearing aids but he can't catch what people say from a stage. He can't even hear at church on Sundays. It is very difficult when you have recently lost your hearing. I will give you a recommendation though..some of the places we have gone have had hearing assisted devices. They are like headsets that are plugged into the performers mics. They had them at the Kodak. You may want to check with the venue and see if they have those available to you....if not, they may be able to do something in time if you give them advance warning. Good luck.......my heart is with you. I am living this too. |

Loopty, it is really hard isn't it. They are left out of so much. My daughter is a vibrant, beautiful young women who works with a Christian humanitarian agency that gives aide to third world countries. I am so blessed by her and just want this to be a special time for us before she heads off to Siberia in January.

Wow! Siberia! It sounds like she isn't allow this to slow her down any.....good for her!!!
It is hard. I have watched with a broken heart as people have avoided speaking with my husband once they know he can't hear them anymore. At times the even look at him like he is stupid because he can't understand what they are saying. When you have been a hearing person your whole like and suddenly lose that sense, it is heartbreaking! I think that it will be a special time for you and your daughter. There is SO much to see in this concert, even if you can't hear all that they are saying, it is so beautiful she will definately enjoy herself, BUT I still say that maybe they will have hearing assisted devices at the venue. More and more places are providing them. I have located the numbers of the venue from a friend and I will be PMing them for you. I tried calling them myself for you but they are already closed. I am so sorry you are having to deal with this. It is such a challenge. I too am living it every day! |

I just talked to the administration office at Midland and they said they do not have any provision for the hearing impaired. They do not have headphones that are frequently available. So I am bumping this to see if anyone has the words to the vignettes of the concert. Thanks

Crafty you are so sweet to care. I have tried to figure out the words myself but I just can't understand all of it. Probably my less than perfect computer. I am sure we will totally enjoy the concert no matter what. I guess I am just being a mom wanting to smooth out the bumps in the road when I can. I am just so grateful that she want to do this with me.

Mamma,
If theres anything i can do, like type up a script or two from the concert let me know. I would be more than happy to do it. I could type it up, then email it to you. Just say WHEN and which one |

Hey, I just realized that too. I'm hearing impaired too, I was wondering a bit ago if there was a transcript anywhere. I'd like to see it. I can't stand not being able to follow along with something. I read lips, but it's harder to when people are on stage.
that'd be cool if someone would do it. either way, doesn't matter. up to anyone who would want to do it, you dont have to |

Re: JNT-05 Help for hearing impaired? Spoiler | ||

I was born deaf, I ummm have about 15% hearing total, left ear is deaf, and right ear I have a hearing aid. Just saying that because not all people that way are exposed to sign language. I don't use ASL because I was capable of understanding language at an early age to catch up okay and everything. It all depends on the person really. I'm learning ASL right now, just got back from class. a LOT of fun, to me atleast!anyone that gets the chance to take it.. do it, it's interesting to learn.
But. anyways... I do depend on reading lips, a transcript may be helpful to people that may have a hard time understanding anything. Wouldn't want anyone to miss the story!!! |

this was a most magical concert, and i was able to see it twice at the Kodak and it was wonderful. the thought of anyone missing it because of horrible negligence on the part of the arena saddens me deeply, and if i can help with transcribing that i would love to.
i'll check back in this thread later |

Kaylz,
Quote: I have the same situation. I have no hearing in my left ear and only partial hearing in the right. I don't have an aide though....but I will have soon as I just ordered one today. I too, was born that way...theory was that it was caused by my mother getting german measles early in the pregnancy. I know I won't be able to hear the "talk" during the show, but I'll still enjoy the music. |

I wear 2 hearing aids, although the right ear is pretty much gone. I have been to many of Clay's concerts and can hear him fine when he's singing but I have some trouble with speaking. I didn't even think of that, but I may have a problem. It's genetic and my mother is now totally deaf. I don't think I could stand life without hearing Clay sing. That would be rough! The hearing aid for my left ear helps quite a bit, thank goodness. I, myself, have done some singing including local theatre but it's too difficult for me to follow cues now so I've given up appearing in shows. It's really quite a thrilling experience and I'm grateful that I got to experience it. I know how exciting it must be for Clay and he just exudes the joy for all of us to appreciate.

Oh my gosh! I can't believe the sweet response to my request. How many vignettes are there? Four people have offered to transcribe. If I know how many and a way to identify them I can start dividing them up between us. We leave for Kansas City on Friday morning so that doesn't leave much time I am afraid. Having any of them is better than none. Thank you all so much for you compassion and helpful spirits. I am just amazed anyone even noticed this post and now we find out that this is not an isolated problem. If you want to choose a vignette and tell me which one that would work too. I am so excited about this.
Maybe Clay would like to help too and he could just sit down with us before the show and explain it all to us. |
