Very interesting!!!! I do enjoy reading reviews but when I do I always remember they are that reviewer's opinion. The fact that a reviewer loves or hates a play/movie/song/performance would never stop me from going and forming my own opinion. I would have missed many a good show if I had followed reviewer's opinions....so with that in mind, I surely would love the opportunity to evaluate this performance for myself.

Hi Claymates.
Has anybody seen this play yet? I was able to get free tickets for last Saturday. I was thrilled because it had a Clay theme.I'm a huge afficionado of Broadway.This play will never even make it to off Broadway. It had a Clay theme alright,but they were gently mocking us Claymates.It was perfomed by students making their debut.My opinion is that it was only cute,and only die-hard Clayfans will like it.However, it was more like a high school production rather than Broadway material. My opinion, of course.Let me know what you think. |

My hubby and I were vacationing in NY and had the opp to see Idol. We paid $60/ea as I did not know there were freebies avail. (were we the only paying people in the audience that night?)
I didn't know how I felt after seeing the show. However, it was in no way a slam against Clay nor his fans. I hate to say anything horrible about it because these are kids trying to break into the business. Our $120 we paid for the tickets, was in our opinion, a donation to get these kids careers a boost. If it flops...these kids are out of a job. And, I'd hate to see that. But, I felt like it was a high school production. Their singing/acting abilities need help. A few of them stood out and I think some of the roles need to be re-casted. The story line was one with a message. Which was good. The misfits...or nerds....idolized someone and it could have been anyone...because the producer chose Clay ....kind of speaks volumes....could have been anyone...he chose Clay. Language wasn't offensive to me at all. Heck, I've said worse. Paying $60/ea was steep. I think I would have felt better if the tickets were 1/2 that price....or less. But....my suggestion is if you can go...then go. Give these kids a chance. Just don't have great expectations. |

I've been told by a friend who works in theatre that theatres under 100 seats are considered "off-off-Broadway". The show is playing in a 99 seat theatre. Yes, the articles call it "Off-Broadway" (they seem to have a good publicist), but by her definition, the play doesn't qualify.

Well I'll never see the play because I live too far away. I've never been to NY. If I could I would go see it for myself.
What I want to do here is thank the ones that posted the pictures. If anyone is taking orders, I'd like to see a picture of the clay bust. Thank you  |

Well, if they find out that we don't like it, it's not going anywhere, but out the window. It's one thing to put out a good plug for Clay, but mocking an obsession for Clay, is pretty much what it appears to be.
You know, no where, has Clay endorsed this play to us. If he is going to get excited about something fantastic, he would have blogged about this like his TV shows. We all know when he is upset, he becomes silent. I heard nothing but silence with this play on his part. Perhaps we should listen to the silence. And the media...I am really upset with them right now about everything, and non Clay fans that want to destroy him. I'm sick of it. I know this is negative talk, but so many of you will agree with me. So, I think I will sit this one out. That's how I Feel Right now.

I'm sorry I spent $60 for the ticket, I did not like it at all! Sure I laughed at the Clay references, and boo hissed at the egg throwing moment..but beyond that I left the theatre shaking my head as to why I wasted my time and money going there when I could have been home listening to him on the cellcert! As we left the theatre, one of my friends heard the guy who took our tickets say, "the play makes you think" and one of us said, "yeah, makes me think what in the heck am I doing here!"
I didn't expect it to be all about Clay, but really, it was probably the worst thing I've ever seen. If you got free tix and have 90 minutes to waste...knock yourself out!

I'm going Sunday-I paid for tix before there were free ones...-and I'm a bit nervous. I am pretty protective of Clay and don't want to be made angry-I'd be their first heckler! lol. But I have a decent sense of humor so I'm willing to give it a shot and see what it is like.

 Hmmm. So these people use Clay's name to get media attention for their 'play'. They harvest Clay's fans in an attempt to fill their seats. They use Clay's name, likeness, personal details, etc., throughout their production... and then they throw egg at him.  They use him up then they throw him away. I most definately DO have a problem with that! |

I was there on Saturday night (waves to ooc4clay (and janet!!), but I was fortunate enough to have gotten free tickets for the show (sympathizes with and hugs ooc4clay (and Janet) who had to pay for their tickets)....
Anyway...myself, mt121 (Hi!) and my 14-y.o. daughter went to see the show. Our attitude was what the heck, they're free tickets and we'll have dinner and a night out in the city. Dinner was fun! We headed over to the theater on 45th St., a small, typical "off-Bway" kind of theater - definitely no frills. The theater was about a third filled - and probably holds about 90 people. The show started off with some real laughs with the cast showing their "devotion" to Clay. The play then goes into the usual "high school misfits, we have to get out of this town, nobody understands us" kind of thing. Nothing original here. The whole production is pretty amateurish. I've been to my fair share of B'wy and off-Bway and off-off Bway productions and this one ranks about the same as some college/high school productions. The end of the show did bother me as a Clay fan. The premise is that they've all been double-tricked, first by the nasty diva-type character who was using them to win a spot for herself as Clay's opening act in their hometown, and then the final comeuppance as the diva gets "had' by Clay - he's using her to pimp his new line of fried chicken and she has to dress up in a chicken costume and sing and cluck. She decides she'll get her revenge by throwing an egg at him. Obviously the entire audience that night was Clay fans as no one laughed at all at the scene...in fact, an audible gasp was heard as the egg was thrown at Clay's likeness. So there you have it. Would I spend money to see this show? Absolutely, positively not. Even if it had nothing at all to do with Clay, it wasn't worth a penny spent. Did I enjoy my free tickets and night out? Well, dinner was fun! |
