Aloha!!!
It is a another beautiful morning in our 50th State!
Last night Tara's daughter Rebecca and I took the guided star-gazing tour up to the top of the inactive Mauna Kea volcano...There are 13 observatories
that harbor 20 telescopes within them at the site that we went to (although I need to explain here that we were not allowed into the ..observatories.our
guide told us they are very much off limits..even accredited scientists/astronomomers, engineers , etc.must apply to visit these places inside, and the
waiting list is 3 years)...so the guides take their own smaller Celestron telescopes.. but what a fantastic experience..the highlight of the trip for me so
far!
Maybe to only be rivaled by the 5K that Jill and I will be doing on the 4th! It was interesting to see how the altitude affected everyone, myself
included. Like going to Mt. Everest, you had to be acclimated along the way up....stopping at 2 different locations for potty breaks and supper (beef stew
and cornmeal biscuits served to us in old tents on a long-ago abandoned sheep-shearing ranch...right next to the Army's still-active training
area.similar to Indiantown Gap!) By the top we reached the top we were all euphoric, walking slowly , exhaling in twice the amount of time as we were
inhaling to remove the excess carbon dioxide from our bodies, making room for the little bit of oxygen that we could take in at that altitude...fascinating!
Even 2 hours after we descended we could feel the difference that experience had made on our bodies.
(And yes, the stars were good too...but the moon was so bright and 3/4 full...so the night sky was not quite what I had hoped for..but the experience was
better!)
Today..the quest continues...we talked to people on the star-van ...they all agreed where the "perfect" beach is, and we will try it today..although then I heard someone else say it's not that great for snorkeling....sigh...... |

Aloha!!!!!
The run went very well!!!! If they had awarded prizes by age/gender categories both Jill and I would have won first places!! LOL!! As it was, though, . they only gave prizes (handmade leis) to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers overall in male and female.....I came in as the 4th female finisher overall... and 14th overall out of 42 in the 5K.....with a time of 34 minutes on a very hilly course....I was pleased with that. (I would not have been pleased with that if it were a flat course, however) Donna...sounds like you made out like a bandit!!! Good shopping!! Prices here are very high..but I bought a few things..including a coconut bra and grass skirt! I could use the coconuts to do Spamalot sound effects, eh? (Ha! I intend to "pretend" to be a Hapa Hoola girl to go along with some Hawaiin sound music that I also purchased) We leave tomorrow night (Sunday) and I will arrive in Baltimore at 4:30 p.m. Monday night. I am anxious to get home now...I miss hubby and the "kids"... Dave called and said little Callie caught a mouse! At 8 weeks old! Jill, Tara and I are going to a luau tonight......the last "official" Hawaiian thing we are doing......I think that's a great way to end this vacation... Now please remember...we are holding back the next thread start until Tara gets back from her next vacation...and Jill too! (She is going on to Calgary to continue her vacation there with her sister...so it means I must wait until they send me all their pictures before I can start the next thread... but we have some neat ideas we are playing with...I think you will all approve....) I know I may be a little late getting this to all of you in your time...but Happy July 4th!!!

Well...how cool is this!!!!! Please, everyone, give a shout out to our new friends Anita, Andy and their lovely little daughter Emily from Phoenix Az!!!
They sat across from us at the luau and are planning to jump on the Clayboard sometime in the next day or so....Anita has even chosen her Clayboard name...."Claymore"!!!! She and Andy were both fascinated about how we all met, but what's really fun is that Anita knew a heck of a lot about Clay for not being a Claymate! So, Aloha, Anita & Andy and Emily!!!! It was great fun and I hope we see at least Anita here soon!!! |

Happy 4th of July!
ALOHA EMILY, ANITA & ANDY! It was great meeting all of you. Hope you have a wonderful Hawaiian vacation Oh, and Andy, that was Linda who yelled out "Good Night Bruce" when we heard you telling someone you "get that all the time". <<<<<<<< That picture is my favourite Clay moment I mentioned......when I got to sing to him. I am so sad we only have one more day here. Tomorrow we have to take Rebecca to that perfect beach (at the hotel our new friends are staying at) and maybe she'll be lucky enough to see something in the water. Since Linda forgot to tell you what we saw yesterday, I'll tell you. It was a sea turtle. We stayed in the water with it for several minutes & at one point he came up for air. It was quite amazing being so close to it. We tried to go to the Turtle Independence Day this morning but there were so many people there that we couldn't see a thing. Oh well. Unless I get a chance to post tomorrow I am not sure when I'll be able to get back here. It depends on if our California hotels have free public internet or not. If you you don't here from me, I will post when I get back home on July 11th. Until then....ALOHA! Clay knows I exist........and he knows my name!

Nice of Clay to blog today. Do we know where he is right now? Is he in LA? Donna...go post on his board & tell him that he needs to be at LAX around 5:30
am Monday morning so I can run into him.
Donna....I tried chewing gum...it didn't work. And swallowing made the pain even worse...it felt like a pin being pushed into my ear. Landing in LA was bad enough, but having to go through another landing in Hawaii just a few hours later was more than I could take. I was crying it hurt so bad. And that is why I am afraid to fly again. At least I only have one flight this weekend, but next weekend I have to take two planes in a row to get home and that really scares me. I hope the decongestant & the use of EarPlanes work. Otherwise I'll always be afraid to fly. Clay knows I exist........and he knows my name!

Hello everyone!!
And a big hello to Anita, Andy and Emily!! Oh Tara, your ear aches sound pretty bad, i was holding my ear while i was reading your posts Linda congratulations on the run! And i hope the luau (that's the first time i've typed "luau".... i would've gotten it wrong too if i hadnt seen you spell it first Jill, I dont like winter that much, but thankfully it's not as cold as what you folks have over there. I do get sick very easily in winter Donna that is some awesome shopping, i should ask you to come with me when i shop! Thats is soo cheap!! Everything here is expensive, its ridiculous. My aunt buys me things from the U.S and I'm amazed at how cheap she gets them. Well, I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July

Good Morning,...oops....I mean...ALOHA!!!! Last day on the Big Island....
Several of us have been awake since 5 a.m....sitting around the pool just talking...very mellow....waiting to start the packing process and eating up all the remaining food we have left in the house. I will be the last one to fly out at 10:45 tonight..but the car needs to go back by 5 p.m....so I will have a long day at the airport.... I hope you all have a pleasant day wherever you are! I probably won't be back till Tuesday morning due to travels, and readjustment to Eastern Time .. Here's the pub in Albany where most of us met....
And here are some reasons why we like to see Clay in concert so often....we have some great animated pics too, but I know you may just be using Andy's blackberry to see this, so I'll keep it simple for now with "stills"...you'll have to wait and use your imagination for now for the action shots....but I think you can sense the enegy from these....
And here are some pictures of some of us on various "road trips"...some with our lifesize Flat Clay.....some without him....
Aloha till Tuesday everyone!

Hi again Anita,
I hear that Linda and Tara encountered you all that the beach this morning. Cool. Did you enjoy the luau yesterday? Was it the kind of thing you were expecting? I hope the rest of your trip is lots of fun. To the rest of you McGeary's I look forward to the 14th when I'll be able to post more often when back at home....will take a short trip to Calgary to the Calgary Stampede for a week before I make the final leg of the trip back home. Will try to post from Calgary. Yee Haw
