My lawn looks so green- Amazing actually, but the earwigs are vicious- Have to get spray for doorways and sills as they are starting to come in - on the dogs' coats even! Took DD home to TO yesterday and it was beautiful there in the afternoon- walked along College and the patios in Little Italy were packed. Came home and went with friends to bingo- then on the way home saw several firworks displays as we were stuck in traffic. Overall it was a good Canada Day Today it's back to cleaning and ironing Bella: Enjoy your vacation- are you doing anything special? Lily,GC1, CQ1,Clay's Melody and Suzygirl: Good to hear from you all and that's the kind of party I would love to attend. Cedoux: I would like to stay in the area but it will depend on cost. In my area as it is rural there is limited townhouses and nearly no semis and only two condos.- Neither of which I want as I need to go outside and get my hands dirty- especially with the two dogs. So we will see. I have to by a newer car as well so that will figure into my costs too. Have a great day everyone!

I hope everyone had a nice Canada Day yesterday. We had a great time with our dinner company last night. Today I have lots of errands to run, including looking for a scrapbook and embellishments for my parent's anniversary gift. Hopefully I can find what I want or I am going to have to find another idea. lol. Patches: Thanks for the great ideas! Cedoux: Aww, thanks! girlcanuck: Glad to hear that you had a good vacation. No wonder my flowers are having a really hard time getting established; we have had some fairly big temperatures swings in the last month and it appears that July may not be any different. I am going to the U of S for Hort Week later this month. This will be my first time and I am so excited and also a little apprehensive. I just have to keep reminding myself that even though I will be a newbie amongst experienced gardeners, I can learn a lot and that is why I am attending. Bella I wish you were here to be my mentor. Wish me luck everyone. The renovations are still on-going. We have had more challenges this time and it is all due to the poor concrete work that was done 35+ years ago. We have solved everything so far but the big stumbling block now is the floor. It is not level and it also has dips in it. Not a big deal if we lay carpet but DH has his heart set on hardwood. We have contacted trades people that deal with this kind of problem, but none return our calls. We have researched what it would take to fix the floor ourselves and the process seems straight forward but it is very time sensitive; once you start the process you must continue to the finish for a successful outcome. It is not something the two of us can do by ourselves. At this point we are experimenting with other ways to fix the floor by testing out different methods on our shop floor. Good thing we don't live in the city or we wouldn't have a shop floor to use for experiments. Patches I understand what you are saying about having some space/land with your house. I grew up on a farm and now live on an acreage. Even though it is a lot of work to maintain I wouldn't want to move. Besides I believe my hands have become permanently dirty! It was good to see some of our absent Claynadians checking in yesterday. I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday. Enjoy your day.

Change beds as company's coming in for my nephew's wedding. We're staying at the lake and they have my house, as we don't have any hotels in our town. How sad is that. I hope everyone had a great Canada Day. Not so nice at the lake it's been raining for 5 days. Hope it's nice Sat. as the wedding is outside. Hope they have lots of party tents, as there's a chance it's going to rain. I'm not bringing my laptop at the lake this summer, as there's no free connection from neighbors this year. They want $40. a month for the internet, I'm too cheap to pay that. If Clay would have been on tour or doing something I'd have paid the $40. without hesitations. I see Clay answered some questions, wonder if he spent Canada Day in BC. I don't know what's wrong with my laptop, I can't post any smilies or pictures anymore. Have to go do some banking. Had a very quiet Canada Day yesterday - DD was working (garden centre was open at the store) and I was doing laundry after visiting CM. MJ - I have no doubt that your parents' gift will look amazing! Patches - After my visit with CM, my "vacation" is just catching up on lots of jobs around the house. Although I booked vacation time long before our strike started (which is why I'm entitled to take it as such), I'm sticking close to home. We expect that the strike will be quite drawn out - a month at least, unfortunately, if not 5 weeks long. Cedoux - Wish I could join you - it sounds like a wonderful event! The one thing you do have, no matter how "green" a gardener you are, is the passion to learn more about it. When I really got into gardening around 15 years ago, I felt couldn't learn enough so I watched and read everything I could get my hands on. If you're thinking of having a good, regular gardening source, I love Canadian Gardening magazine and its website. They have messageboards and it's a great place to have questions answered. I'm off to scrape some ice out of my freezer - how's that for exciting?

We were aiout last night and am on my way out again tonight. This retirement life is busy! Cedoux our temperatures did not go that low last night but I heard you had storms in your area. I hope you have fun at the Uof S. Sometimes it is hard to go for the first time. I was so afraid to join the ladies golf club. I thought they were all so much better than I was. Turns out most are not and they are laovely welcoming ladies. I am sure you have things you can share with them. Cedoux and Patches you can have my yard and I will get the condo. I would have no problem at all watching someone mow the lawn. Oh wait a minute. That is my husband!! MJ good luck finding what you need for your parents anniversary. Aikefan sorry about your weather. I can't stand it anymore! lol. I've decided to hold off on the scrapbook for my parent's anniversary. This month and next month are so busy with work and family parties/events that I wouldn't have much time to work on it. I may still do a scrapbook for them, but will give it to them at Christmas if it's finished in time. Plus, I just found out that the photo paper I have been using to scrapbook with at home is not the best for archival quality photos, so now I need new paper. One thing I do have to make is an anniversary card for my parents, so I will get to work on that today. Bella/zakus: Thanks! Cedoux: Sorry to hear about the renovation problems. I love this Claynadian thread and you are a great bunch of ladies. I always say that Clay has the most wonderful fans and you are proof of that. Zakus, thank you for everything--you are a dear. We are finally having a sunny day after days of torrential rain and flooding. I posted on another board that the terrible rain stopped at exactly 11 am when the funeral began and it didn't start up again until we were leaving the cemetery. We all knew that the angels were crying, but we were grateful that they stopped for a bit. The ceremony at the cemetery was so moving--my niece's husband is a talented bag piper and he played "Amazing Grace" dressed in his full regalia. Thank you again so much. RIF (aka SRIFAN)

There was an owl sitting in the flower bed under our bedroom window this morning. At first we thought it might be hurt, but it eventually flew away. DH thought perhaps it was a young owl that had just been kicked out of the nest and that is why it wasn't bothered about being so close to the house. The cats were still inside at the time and they certainly were watching it closely. Last week a cow moose and her calf came into the yard. They both disappeared before I got to see them, but DH got a good look at both. I love living where we are! aikenfan enjoy your nephew's wedding. I hope it is a nice day for their outside ceremony. Bella thanks for the information. I will certainly check their website. Enjoy your "vacation"; I hope the strike doesn't last too long. c75 enjoy Rock of Ages; I think Constantine was nominated for a Tony award. I hope you feel better soon. RIF justluci I was watching the football game when it started to rain. I am glad you finally got some; now if both our provinces could get some more that would be really great! Beautiful day here. We leave for the lake tomorrow where we meet up with the kids and grand babies. I am not sure if I will take my laptop or not so if you do not see me for awhile I am good. Justluci happy you got some rain. It is so very dry here but now they are calling for rain at the lake. I so wanted to have good weather but I guess it is out of my control. Cedoux how fun to see an owl up that close. It could have just been kicked from the next. I saw a deer on the golf course this morning. I love going to the lake spring and fall when the wild life comes closer to the cabin. Hope you guys are all having a good weekend.

Spent the last 2 nights with Maia and have really enjoyed it. My cousin and her hubby both had soccer games yesterday and Friday and then went to a wedding last night, so my Aunt is over baby-sitting and I've come over to help in the evenings. Last night we took Maia and the dog for a walk and she loved it. I can't believe how fast she is growing. Next month she will be 3 months old! It was great to read Clay's 4th of July blog yesterday! I hope everyone had a great time at the TO Cluncheon! claynadian75: My parent's anniversary is this Tuesday, the 7th. I hope you feel better soon! Safe travels to NYC tomorrow and have a great time at Rock of Ages. One of my friends at work saw it in May and loved it. She said the music is fantastic.
