"Patience is the most valuable asset in all of this." ~ Clay Aiken, GMA 9/25/08
For those of you who are struggling, think about Clay's words. I really, really believe that the Clay in this interview is the Clay that people will be able to relate to - funny, charming, intelligent, open and still a bit goofy..how can anyone not adore this man. |

With some saying it was a quick interview, I also found it longer than I was expecting. It was a wonderful interview and my emotions were building (unbeknownst
to me) and by the end I had to run for the kleenix box! Clay was perfect in that interview and he looked so happy and so good.

I am pretty appalled at the tone of that piece. Way too flippant and lighthearted for such a serious issue. We go from the agonizing report he describes in
People magazine to that? Really, I am almost speechless.
editing to correct "to" to "too".

I cried at that interview...that was just so sweet the way he was singing to Parker.
I don't think the overall tone was anything terrible. I would think that the People interview was sometime before the GMA interview was recorded and he probably felt liberated and just free at that point. He said that he wasn't there to make any announcement, just to set the record straight. I don't see why he would have had to be so serious. I'm glad he was happy and smiling because otherwise I wouldn't have felt like coming out was the right thing for him to do, where as now I do. |

Really?? I just saw a guy who appeared way nervous but most importantly honest. Am I the only one that has noticed the more nervous he is the more he giggles?
What was he supposed to do, sit there and cry? |

RedBay wrote: I thought it was nerves. We've seen this before in many interviews through the years. The giggling is a nervous impulse. The interview was very good. He said some important things IMO, one of which was his lack of faith at society's acceptance of him which I see was a legitimate concern given the mixed reactions to his news. |

What was he supposed to do, sit there and cry?If that was his honest reaction- then yes. Not this glossed over version of what we have been lead to believe was a very painful journey for him etc etc. And again he/they are using Parker to manipulate the message and I am quite uncomfortable with that. |

okay so it's selfish of him to use Parker as a coming out. But I still believe he is a good person under all that. I can't believe some people are
going to walk away over this. Unbelievable....

Redbay, that interview doesn't negate the journey. He's already been through the emotions and has arrived at self-acceptance. It may be hard for the rest of us to understand where he is coming from because we are not there yet.

Yes, he even said in his book, that when he is nervous
that he giggles, the more nervous the more the giggles! Another dead giveaway, was that he started ahead of Diane, like he had to get stuff out! Thanks for the recaps! This was a very revealing interview, I think! Not nearely as relaxed as he looks! |

I have to leave for work but I will briefly say that I was disappointed in that interview. I am having a hard time with this whole thing (and to be specific,
mostly about being lied to) and I felt his attitude and laughing was wrong. Please don't say the nervous thing.....I know that (or at least I think I know
that....don't know if I ever knew this man) but this was a serious interview about a serious subject. Laughing about telling his mom....sorry, not funny.
Have to go to work.

RedBay wrote:He already cried about it - when he told his mom, when he told Brett, and any other time we don't know about it. I think he is saying he has come to terms with everything himself. He cried it all out already. He is out and proud now. No more tears. |
