Can someone help me out again by posting a link to this review by Bill Lamb at About.com. He has now reviewed the entire CD and it is a very solid review. He
thinks Clay has made a good decision to stick with AC. You can tell he actually listened to the music. If this is already posted somewhere I couldn't
find it. There was a review of the single a couple weeks ago.
Anyway, go read. It's great. Thanks for whoever can post the link. |

Clay Aiken - On My Way Here Courtesy RCA RecordsFirst, if you are a serious Clay Aiken1 fan, you will be very pleased with On My Way Here. The production throughout this album is wisely toned down to make plenty of room for Aiken's warm, sweet vocals. The songwriting, while not spectacular, is solid throughout. However, if polished adult contemporary is not your thing, this is a collection to pass by. Clay Aiken is a master of this style, but you won't find him much on most mainstream pop radio stations. It's a wise decision to stop chasing what's out of reach and stick to what he does best. Music for the FansA key element to Clay Aiken's3 success thus far as a singer is his impressive ability to connect strongly with his core fans. At his best moments, he demonstrates the ability to ignore critics and zero in on what it is his listeners most want to hear. The covers album A Thousand Different Ways4, largely dictated by record label interests, veered a bit off that path. However, On My Way Here, filled with lush ballads and a few slightly funky workouts, exploits Aiken's strengths as an engaging vocalist. More than a few songs here are destined to become favorites for his devoted following. Solid Batch of SongsThe songs here are solid. A number of the songwriters here have strong backgrounds in the Contemporary Christian arena. Other standouts include the work of OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder on the album's title cut "On My Way Here."5 Sweden's Martin Kaxe and Fred Alexander edge Clay Aiken into pop-rock territory impressively on "Falling." Music industry veterans David Foster and Emanuel Kiriakou collaborate with Aiken on the gorgeous album closer "Lover All Alone." Top Tracks from On My Way Here
Clay Aiken Takes a Firm Hold of His NicheSuccess in the mainstream pop arena can be a very enticing bauble for a pop singer to attempt to grab. However, adult contemporary fans and radio are more likely to embrace an artist over the long term with appreciation for a polished voice. Clay Aiken's fellow American Idol alum Kimberley Locke6 has proven one can build a very solid career at adult contemporary radio with almost no exposure from mainstream pop stations. This is clearly Clay Aiken's comfort zone and from time to time on On My Way Here he soars. This is his niche in the pop music industry. Released May 2008 by RCA Records. |

I find it interesting what his top tracks are. Two are uptempo, and two are ballads, and I'll agree. I think he may be zeroing on Urban, and Hip Hop pop.
Because last night I read a review from London. I'm not sure of the name of it, London Press or something like that, but the review wasn't too bad.
It again said that this album is for the Claymates, if you voted for Ruben Studdard, to pass it by. I just don't think that that is a good thing to say.
They are putting Clay in an Adult Contemporary niche. I really think they are talking about Hip Hop, and this weird stuff that is coming in like Duffy, and
Winehouse. Ugh!! I can't listen to that stuff. The voices are so irritating. If you have some different distinct voice, it's so great. And if your
lyrics are dirty, and something out of your bedroom, or whatever, it's soooo outstanding. I'm glad that Bill gave Clay a four star. Because I'm
sick and tired of seeing, if you're not doing the pop crap, it's a two star, and below. Even Josh Groban gets two stars from these crappy reviews.
They should judge on each genre level, and they're not. Their own specific personal taste is the judge. Those go in the garbage can.
Bill Lamb knows how to review music. I listen to him, and not many other people.

An analysis that I can agree with, and Clay did state that his focus was on Hot AC! The question is how do you get radio play?

At least this reviewer listened to the whole CD. Pretty good review, four stars out of five is pretty darn OK. So what if Clay is not on top40 - so what. He
can find a niche on AC.

I think that was a very fair review. Top40 has changed so much in the past 5-10 years. It is dominated by the urban market. Some non-hiphop songs get in,
but not that many. Clay fits perfectly on AC. I will not believe it if they snub him.

CLAYGAL wrote: Good question! He can't even get radio play in his own backyard on WRAL-FM! I heard them debut OMWH on the day of the CD release and have yet to hear it since. Now that doesn't mean they didn't play it at 3am but I listen throughout the day and haven't heard it! |

CLAYGAL wrote: No kidding. I am frustrated with the lack of radio play. I am trying to be patient. I know Clay said, AC music builds slowly. Ok, bu thow slowly?? this has
been slower then molasses in Vermont in the winter. I don't know what to expect by slow. So, I am already finding the lack of radio play very, very
frustrating. This CD.. these songs, need to be heard. The voice needs to be heard. I am stuck now, on how to get this to happen anymore. It seems no one
listens to what the listeners really want.
