So many folks react to a biased view of Clay. All they need is to see and hear him and Clay's talent and charisma will do the rest. You're right about that, it's NOT our decision. The only decision we have to make is if we buy the album. And my mind was made up about that a long time ago. Clay has the most amazing, beautiful voice I've ever heard, and I will buy ANY album he releases. Obviously, those of you who are dissappointed there might be a ballad or two, can decide not to buy it. In the big picture, I really don't think that would make much difference.

Everything I've heard and read so far looks pretty promising. Everyone is free to voice his or her opinion on whatever happens with Clay, but when it comes to airplay----------------we all know from experience that Clay and his music are not very popular with the radio jocks regardless of how great the song is. So, I suggest that we not dwell on the negative, but get excited about the fact that we're almost there!!!!!! The CD is getting ready to drop and a single has been selected----------------------even if it isn't the one reported.

All it takes for a song to be appropriate for top 40 radio - is for it to be a current recording and a hit. And what makes a hit...$$upport. Now why did Clay, who sold 3 million albums with a tiny fraction of the radio play and promo that Justin T or Kelly C got with a top 40 pop/rock album, who outsold them both when he got modest promo, who outsold Kelly C's first week sales of her big album Breakaway with a Christmas album and continued to outsell it all the time it was in stores- that broke and all times sales record by the way and did so a year and a half after AI when KC's first week album sales had a 25% loss from her debut album, despite two radio hits (Breakaway - a ballad - and Since U Been Gone) leading up to the album release - why did KC get $upport all over the radio and not Clay? Well I can take a guess.....and no it had nothing to do with being a ballad. I'd say that was a DJ excuse because there was no reasonable or honest way to explain why someone as popular as Clay, with perfect top 40 fit songs who was selling like gangbusters - wasn't getting radio play. So we got the 'ballad excuse'. But Christina A has a ballad...well it's okay for a woman. Well what about Green Day? Well they're a band. It's only solo males. Well what about Usher? Well it's just for new artists....Well what about Evanescence and My Immortal? They're a debut group. So I guess it's just debut, solo males with red hair from NC who are 6'1" and have a degree in special ed who like Hot Pockets and Krispy Kremes. Oh and you can't wear striped socks either. Ah now I understand. Lots of excuses....excuses that make sense....not so much. On My Way Here is a great, modern song by a cool, hip songwriter who is all over the radio. And if that's the single it SHOULD get radio play. I expect the label to overlook their conflict of interest with that show. They need to look genuine if they want to keep the sliding ratings from sliding more and losing it all. And the recording industry is already on shaky ground. That means finally doing right by Clay instead of sticking to the show's script so they won't look oh I don't know - WRONG. Maybe they'll surprise me and do right by Clay. Clay's got the music to get radio play. And the fans and sales potential. Now all he needs are some honest business people to $upport him. BRAVO, AustenFan!!! And if he doesn't get $$support, no amount of excuses will fly this time around. And let it not be forgotn1 time that Clay has no control over what single is released. Clive/RCA makes that decision for him. But whatever it is or isn't, $$support or not, radio play or not, that little sucker is going to be blaring from my car CD player at top volume the moment I have it in my hot little hands. Right 'new artists' don't get radio play with ballads. I thnk that was fourth on my list of excuses not to play Clay. Those established artists like 'Daniel Powter' and James Blunt and Evanescence.....but they got ballad played from their debuts...John Legend was a debut as well. I mean how could that happen? How could they have crediblity as a debut artist....$$$credibiilty works alot like $$$upport. Credibility is $$$upport from a publicist rather than a radio station. But it's still $$$upport and works the same way. The DJ announces Clay's new raw, edgy rock ballad..Wow is that Clay Aiken? I love that song. Nothing safe about that....and Ouila....$$$crediblity. The only reason Clay needs to prove anything to anyone is because a bunch of media folks and reality show judges and PR people spread a false notion of Clay's music. His music had nothing to do with it. Most of the public's perception of Clay's music is based on written description of songs they've NEVER heard. Not tough to fight that. Just get the songs HEARD. The bias is pleasant, pretty and safe. Relying on big singing. That's not On My Way Here. It's not Lover All Alone. Lover All Alone brought Clay respect. And yes, it's a ballad. Just happens to be a great one. They didn't play Green Day's Boulevard Of Broken Dreams with an apology for the ballad that is so uncool but hey it's Green Day....they played it because it's a rocking, edgy song that fits right in and is cool and hip and also meaningful. Sounds alot like Clay to me. Frankly I think the folks from Green Day would not be too happy to hear that radio played their 'uncool, sappy ballad' only because they're established artists and could get away with it. The Grammy folks who gave it song of the year might be a bit miffed at that too. I was at a rest stop near the highway. They were playing Holiday - Green Day's huge rock hit. Cool and edgy. Right after that they played Clay's edgy, rocking song I Will Carry You. Nobody in that rest stop blinked an eye. I Will Carry You fight right in with Green Day and the folks in that restaurant didn't notice anything wrong. Because nobody told them they should. Clay singing a raw, gutsy, rock ballad can be an 'Is that Clay Aiken' moment. It just has to presented the right way. And if the label and their business partner at that show finally do right by Clay - it will happen. Thank you Tigerpat. And if he doesn't get $$support, no amount of excuses will fly this time around. No excuses this time. But I'll be flying on matter what because there will be new and exciting music from Clay.out there for people to discover and for me to love. And as Clayitonme said... Bring It On

I was leary........but after listening to it 10 times.... I just LOVE IT!!! The lyrics---it's as if it were written especially for Clay!!!! It's about developing Character from your life experiences. The Melody is catchy with a nice rhythm. It's sure to be enjoyed by the younger generation...and all of the rest. It sounds a lot like the music of today that young adults listen to-----but, with a wonderful message 'Faith will pull you through' With Clay's voice and arrangement it will be AWESOME !! While you have some interesting things to say, and I do agree with a few of them,, There is no way Clay can be compared at ALL, to people who have radio cerdibility, and Have the support of thier labels, and Clay has the stigma you talked about to overcome. His name does not evoke the same things those other artists do. I really do hope your posts come to fruition, but I have little hope. Clay doesn't have the "credibility" with his name or what's in the public's concience. and a ballad will be harder for him than anyone else to really get that kind of attention and success. Let's all hope what you say is what's going to happen, but you have to admit, at this time in Clay's career, over the past few years, it's a very long shot when it comes to Clay/RCA and radio. The only reason Clay needs to prove anything to anyone is because a bunch of media folks and reality show judges and PR people spread a false notion of Clay's music. Yes, loveOMC, Clay IS making a difference, a HUGE difference. And I couldn't be more proud of him. This album is by him, and about him. I think it will speak volumes about the kind of person he is. I just don't understand why a few people here only "come out" to post when they have something negative to say, or to criticize Clay for something. You never see them otherwise. I am so excited for this album, and for Clay. It's Clay singing, and I know I will love it.

I wont buy into the excuses that clay isnt credible, or always sings ballads, or doesnt have a place on radio, thats why ballads wont work for clay..nope, if ballads are good enough for others, then they are good enough for Clay. James Blunts FIRST song on the radio was "your beautiful" before he had anything else, or had sung anything else that song was what made his mark..and there are plenty like that. people always say "well Clay cant have a ballad because..." always a reason why its ok for others, and its not ok for Clay..nope, not for me..I dont hold Clay to any standards that I dont hold anyone else to...if ballads are good enough for James Blunt, then theyre good enough for Clay. On My waY here is not an ATDW orchestrated ballad, its a pop ballad..2 completely different things. I refuse to say that Clay doesnt have credibility, what good does that do? what point does that make? nope..hes credible enough for me its all good for me.

But it has nothing to do with ballads. Clay singing a raw, gutsy song like Lover All Alone breaks the stereotype. And what's more, it's truly original. The melody and rhythm and the incredible lyrics and the way they are part of the music....like nothing I've heard. And isn't that what being an artist is all about. I simply wish we wouldn't weigh everything so heavily and just say "oh no it's all going to be thrown away now" only because OMWH is a ballad. Face it he's always going to have ballads on the album. I know some wish for a more upbeat song as the single, but honestly OMWH is an incredible song with heartfelt lyrics that cannot be denied. Why must we bash the song to bits because heaven forbid it's A BALLAD! Why pick it all apart simply because it doesn't fit what you wanted, your expectations or your standards? Just enjoy and love the song for what it is and what is has, a message and a story that comes straight from the heart. Sometimes we're so busy wishing for total success for Clay and all that it's going to entail that somewhere along the way we're squashing down the excitement of it all. We're lessening the joy, the eagerness. Hello, we're getting a new CD with new music, music that I think is going to be fantastic and far beyond anything we could have imagined from a man we all love so much. Why can't that be enough? Then again I guess some things will never be enough for a chosen few. ~Teddy~
