I hope this on line article makes their print edition. I checked today's paper - not in. So maybe tomorrow.

I have the feeling that the material from that article was lifted verbatim from the press release. I'll bet they have an advance copy.
I could be wrong, of course. But I don't think so. |

Well, I'm excited for whatever Clay and his producers (Kipper and Jaymes) decide to release!! As far as radio, maybe since Ryan Tedder wrote the song it
might give radio a reason to play it as he seems to be the industry's favorite songwriter right now! We shall see!!!
I'm just too excited to start worrying what might happen!!! We get a new CD and a single, life is good!!! |

Well being a ballad and all on top 40 - could be rough....
I mean Daniel Powter's Bad Day was a ballad and that got no radio play. And my goodness James Blunt's 'You're Beautiful' never heard that one on radio. Or One Republic (as in Ryan Tedder's band) and Timbaland got no radio play at all with 'Apologize'. Except for the half a million or so spins. But that was mostly on top 40 so I guess that doesn't count, right? And they never played Christina Aguilera's Beautiful either. And it didn't get any Grammy nods because heck it was a ballad. That live Grammy performance was probably just my 'magination. There are ballads all over the radio, including top 40 hit radio and MTV. As a matter of fact Timbaland/One Republic's Apologize was at the top of the TRL countdown for quite some time. Yes, the guy who wrote Clay's lead single and all. Rock ballads like Green Day's huge hit Boulevard Of Broken Dreams (Grammy Song Of The Year) and also When September Ends. Or urban ballads like Usher's slow jam, Burn. All it takes for a song to be appropriate for top 40 radio - is for it to be a current recording and a hit. And what makes a hit...$$upport. Now why did Clay, who sold 3 million albums with a tiny fraction of the radio play and promo that Justin T or Kelly C got with a top 40 pop/rock album, who outsold them both when he got modest promo, who outsold Kelly C's first week sales of her big album Breakaway with a Christmas album and continued to outsell it all the time it was in stores- that broke and all times sales record by the way and did so a year and a half after AI when KC's first week album sales had a 25% loss from her debut album, despite two radio hits (Breakaway - a ballad - and Since U Been Gone) leading up to the album release - why did KC get $upport all over the radio and not Clay? Well I can take a guess.....and no it had nothing to do with being a ballad. I'd say that was a DJ excuse because there was no reasonable or honest way to explain why someone as popular as Clay, with perfect top 40 fit songs who was selling like gangbusters - wasn't getting radio play. So we got the 'ballad excuse'. But Christina A has a ballad...well it's okay for a woman. Well what about Green Day? Well they're a band. It's only solo males. Well what about Usher? Well it's just for new artists....Well what about Evanescence and My Immortal? They're a debut group. So I guess it's just debut, solo males with red hair from NC who are 6'1" and have a degree in special ed who like Hot Pockets and Krispy Kremes. Oh and you can't wear striped socks either. Ah now I understand. Lots of excuses....excuses that make sense....not so much. On My Way Here is a great, modern song by a cool, hip songwriter who is all over the radio. And if that's the single it SHOULD get radio play. I expect the label to overlook their conflict of interest with that show. They need to look genuine if they want to keep the sliding ratings from sliding more and losing it all. And the recording industry is already on shaky ground. That means finally doing right by Clay instead of sticking to the show's script so they won't look oh I don't know - WRONG. Maybe they'll surprise me and do right by Clay. Clay's got the music to get radio play. And the fans and sales potential. Now all he needs are some honest business people to $upport him. |

I just want Clay to get all the recognition and success that his mega-talent deserves. ETA: I looked up OneRepublic and "Apologize" on Youtube and had never heard this song before! I need to get current! That's what happens when you stop listening to radio....

Okclayhoman and Clayzycarol,
Thank you. I do think OMWH has an edgy, raw quality. I loved what I heard of Ashes as well. And I'd venture to guess there are more surprises in store. If people get to hear the heart and soul in Clay's music they won't be able to deny his talent and artistry. |

yup, Clive/Clay made thier choice.....if it flies it flies , if it faiis it fails . If he's criticized for same old same old or praised for it, it's
not our decision.
I just want to hear what he calls upbeat. I'll have to wait a while it's just kind of sad, I doubt a ballad will get the " is that Clay Aiken" response if that's what people expect from him anyway. ETA : the problem with that AUSTENFAN is that he doesn't have the credibility like those others that you mentioned, so while it may work for them, since thay already have radio play and aren't known solely for an album of ballads the last time, for Clay...it's not that easy..
