We do live in a culture that prefers youth and is less comfortable with the prospect of growing older. So I don't think that this problem relates only to the fandom; it's far more pervasive than that.

I hear ya, Ineeda. But, I actually think that "PYT" and "attractive young guy" are aliases for the hip crowd. Maybe it would be better to say "the younger demographic".

As for me, I want Clay to have fans of all ages, ethnicities, nationalites, genders, body types.

Okay, in short, I want the world for him.

Not too much to ask, is it?

For whatever it's worth, I think that the issue of the age of Clay's fans is merely a reflection of the larger society in which we live. We do live in a culture that prefers youth and is less comfortable with the prospect of growing older. So I don't think that this problem relates only to the fandom; it's far more pervasive than that.

But on a cheerier note: tomorrow we'll be able to listen to OMWH online! YAY! Can't wait!!

Clay is on Comcast's home page today under Showbiz Buzz. Not so flattering photo and I didn't much care for the tone at the beginning of the article, but it's great that Comcast considers the album as BUZZ.

Now that I know what "PYT" is I'll comment. First, I'm in college, and I know that there are a lot of college/high school students who are avid Clay fans...so there are still a lot of younger fans out there. However, I do agree with VoxAngelicus about how it shouldn't matter to the media what age Clay fans are...I personally think what's so great about Clay is that he has fans of all ages and that he's someone that people of all ages and backgrounds can...

I'd love for Clay to be loved and appreciated by the PYTs and the hot young guys, but it's too bad that the media hold it against Clay because he has a strong following among middle-aged women. That's ageism, which is just plain wrong. Okay, getting off my soap box now (and I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir here, anyway).

ETA: Now I think about it more, it's probably a combination of ageism and sexism. Middle-aged and older women often are viewed as somehow...

Clay says he never tires of singing Invisible and I never tire of listening to him. This was such a fun performance...I loved seeing all of the young people rockin out to Clay's song!

Thank you. I'd love to sit it on all Clay interviews. But I think in situations like this you will always get different versions and interpretations. People miss things. Or paraphase in ways that slightly change meaning. Or fill in blanks in different ways. Of focus on different parts of what was said. And that's going to happen to some degree no matter who reports it. Some language is more clear than others.

Austenfan, there have been times in the past when I have disagreed with you, but not the past few days, I am solidly in your corner. I have talked with two of our local DJ's from two different stations and they have been very nice and informative. One is a big fan of Clay's and the other is very easy to talk to. They both have explained that it is what the PR's want and that it is impossible to get a song played if it is not on...
